A Des Moines Public Schools boys basketball head coach and campus monitor has resigned just days after being placed on administrative leave.

Larry Mason Jr. — who was East High School's head coach and a monitor at the school — was placed on administrative leave from both positions Friday, said Amanda Lewis, Des Moines schools' spokesperson.

He resigned from the two positions Monday.

Marson served as the school's head basketball coach since November 2021, Lewis said. Additionally, he was a middle school head football coach at Hoover High School during the 2020-21 school year; North High School assistant boys basketball coach, 2008-11; and North High School assistant soccer coach, 2008-09.

Mason began working at the school as a campus monitor in August 2021. His job duties included building positive relationships with students and supervising areas of the school, among other assignments, according to the district's job description.

There is no record of Mason being employed by the school between 2011 and 2020, Lewis said.
