East/SE District Basketball: Maysville's Jarrett, Brown headline area honorees

Hayden Jarrett's all-around talent is easy to notice on the court.

The Maysville senior delivered consistent performances all year for the Panthers, averaging 21.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.4 steals. He also shot 49% from the field and 3-point range and made 78% of his free throws.

Those numbers were among the reasons he earned a share of the East District Division II Player of the Year with New Philadelphia senior Carter Vandall.

The teams were selected by media within the district.

Maysville coach Dave Brown, who led the Panthers to a 21-1 regular season mark and the program's first Muskingum Valley League title since 1996, was Co-Coach of the Year with Carrollton's Mike Aukerman. The Warriors went 19-3 and won the Eastern Buckeye Conference after finishing last in their conference in 2021-22.

River View senior Owen Emig, Zanesville junior Rashaud Hampton and Tri-Valley sophomore Max Lyall also made first team as the division featured a deep pool of talented players.

Emig became the Black Bears' all-time leading scorer in boys basketball after lead the team with 20.6 points to go with 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Hampton scored 15 points per game with 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists and Lyall had 13.3 points with 2.6 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.6 assists, along with a 49% field goal percentage.

John Glenn senior Nathan Walker, Maysville junior Alex Bobb and Morgan junior Carson Mummey were voted to the second team.

Walker paced the Muskies' offense with 16.4 points and contributed 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.2 steals; Bobb chipped in 17.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.2 steals for the Panthers; and Mummey led the Raiders with 18.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals.

River View senior Brody Border, Philo senior Cade Searls and Tri-Valley junior Terrell Darden were on third team. Border averaged 18.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists, Searls scored better than 20 per game in becoming the boys' all-time 3-point leader and Darden contributed 12.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.2 assists, along with a field goal percentage of 63.8.

In Division III, West Muskingum senior Jack Porter was a first-team selection. He poured in 15 points per game for the Tornadoes. He also contributed 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists.

Jeff Rinkes, who led the Tornadoes to an 18-4 record and their first MVL title since 1991, split Coach of the Year honors with Sandy Valley's Gary Offenberger and Malvern's Dennis Tucci.

Coshocton sophomore Colton Conkle made second team and West Muskingum senior Noah Ray was named to third team. Conkle paced the Redskins with 17.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 3.4 assists, while Ray added 13 points, 7.0 rebound and 3.0 assists for the Tornadoes.

Rosecrans junior Grady Labishak earned first-team mention in Division IV, while senior teammate Weston Hartman was selected to second team. Labishak knocked in 22.5 points to go with 4.7 assists and 3.5 rebounds, while shooting 80% at the line, 49% from the field and 39% from 3-point range. Hartman tallied 17.6 points and 8.6 rebounds, along with shooting 35% on 3s.

Labishak and Hartman also made the Mid-State League Cardinal Division first team, as Labishak was the division's Player of the Year. Junior Brendan Bernath was on the second team and junior Xander Daniels received honorable mention.

Girls

Tri-Valley senior Lexi Howe and sophomore Mackenzie Harvey were first-team selections in Division I, while Zanesville junior Jersey Draughn and John Glenn sophomore Mya Oliver received first-team recognition in Division II.

Howe paced the Scotties with 17.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.4 steals and shot 77% from the line, 51% from the field and 45% from 3, while Harvey was a consistent 3-point threat and contributed 9.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

Oliver guided the Muskies, pouring in 15.6 points with 3.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.0 steals, while Draughn highlighted the Lady Devils' squad with 15 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 steals.

Philo senior Olivia Dement, John Glenn senior Mckinzi Linscott and Morgan senior Odessa Smith were second-team choices. Dement contributed 10.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists for the Electrics; Linscott averaged a double-double of 10.6 points and 10 boards, along with 2.6 steals and 1.4 assists; and Smith led the Raiders with 10.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 2.5 assists.

Zanesville junior Kandrea Sowers and River View senior Lily Yoder made third team. Sowers collected 11 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 2.9 assists and Yoder had 9.6 points and 4.8 rebounds a night.

West Holmes' Lindsy Snyder and Ella McMillen were the Coach and Player of the Year in the division.

Meadowbrook junior Kenli Norman highlighted the Division III selections by making first team after leading the Colts with 14 points per game. She also averaged 4.6 rebounds and 3 steals.

Josh Middleton of West Muskingum shared Coach of the Year accolades with Scooter Tolzda of Union Local after leading the Tornadoes to a 16-6 record and keeping them in contention for a Small School Division title.

Meadowbrook junior Karly Launder, West Muskingum senior Caitlyn Drake and Coshocton senior Savannah Bartlett were voted to the second team. Launder contributed 10.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 3.1 assists; Drake highlighted a balanced Tornadoes' squad with 8.1 points and 5.0 rebounds; and Bartlett paced the Lady 'Skins' attack with 14 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.0 steals.

West Muskingum junior Laney Johnson received third-team mention with 6.8 points and 2.5 steals.

Union Local's Reagan Vinskovich was tabbed Player of the Year.

Rosecrans senior Jenna McLaughlin made second team in Division IV after averaging 9.1 points and 13.4 rebounds

McLaughlin and sophomore teammate Alaina Berry made second team on the Mid-State League Cardinal Division squad, while Rosecrans senior Ella Lambert was honorable mention.

Southeast District

New Lexington senior Lukas Ratliff and Sheridan senior Reed Coconis were first-team selections for the Division II boys. Ratliff contributed 12.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game to go with shooting 74% from the foul line and 36% on 3s, while Coconis led the Generals with 13.9 points, 5.1 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Teams were selected by the media within the district, but the Times Recorder does not vote in the district.

New Lex sophomore Isaiah Stephens was a second-team selection with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals to go along with making 80% from the line, while Sheridan's Raine Rodich made third team after averaging 12.1 points and 4.3 rebounds.

New Lex's Ryan Hobbs also received special mention.

For Division II girls, New Lex senior Aubri Spicer and Sheridan junior Jamisyn Stinson earned first-team accolades. Spicer scored 15.2 points go with 6.2 assists and 4.0 steals and shot 72% from the line and 52% from the field, while Stinson set several school records as she led the Generals with 21.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 steals and 3.0 assists. She also shot 80% at the line, 51% from the floor and 42% from 3.

Sheridan's J.D. Walters shared Coach of the Year accolades with Jeff Miller of Chillicothe Unioto and Fairland's Jon Buchanan.

New Lex senior Kim Kellogg and Sheridan junior Nora Saffell were second-team choices. Kellogg finished with 9.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 4.1 assists and Saffell contributed 11.5 points and 4.8 rebounds, while Kellogg

Sheridan's Halle Warner and New Lex's Abby Wilson were special mention.

In Division III, Crooksville senior Ryan Moore was a boys special mention pick after averaging 12 points and 4 rebounds, while Crooksville freshman Alexia Van Meter was special mention on the girls side after averaging 8.1 points and 3.7 rebounds.
