East Side man charged as getaway driver in 2018 Southeast Side homicide

A third person has been charged in connection with a February 2018 homicide, according to Franklin County court records.

Damon Deveaux, 55, of the East Side, was arrested Thursday and charged with murder in connection with the Feb. 4, 2018, shooting death of 43-year-old Donnelle Davenport.

According to court records, 27-year-old Sharayea Brown, of New Jersey, was visiting Davenport at his home on the 5300 block of Brayton Avenue on the city's Southeast Side.

Surveillance video from Davenport's home shows him leaving and, a short time later, 49-year-old Martin Wright, of New York City, arriving at the home while Brown was still there. Davenport returned and Brown did not tell him that Wright was there. Brown left the house and Wright shot and killed Davenport, according to court records.

Wright was seen on the video leaving Davenport's home after the shooting with bags of Davenport's personal property. Court records indicate Davenport and Wright had an ongoing feud about money.

Davenport was found around 8:30 p.m. that night by friends who had broken a window in the home to check on him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Court records said Brown and Wright got into a vehicle that was waiting at a nearby intersection. An investigation determined that Deveaux, who is friends with both Wright and Davenport, was the driver of the vehicle, court records said.

Wright was sentenced in December 2021 to 24 years in prison after entering a guilty plea to charges of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated robbery.

Deveaux is being held in the Franklin County jail.
