East Stroudsburg declares snow emergency ahead of winter storm

East Stroudsburg has declared a snow emergency from 6 a.m. Saturday through 8 a.m. Monday.

Cars should not be parked on snow emergency routes or on the wrong side of the street. Illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed and towed at their owners' expenses, the borough warned.

The declaration was issued Friday evening in advance of what is expected to be this winter's first major snowfall.

A winter storm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for Monroe County from 1 p.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday.

In a briefing issued at 5 p.m. Friday, the NWS was forecasting 8 to 12 inches of snow for Mount Pocono and much of Monroe County.
