East Stroudsburg University basketball players achieve national Honors Court status

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced on Tuesday morning that East Stroudsburg University men's basketball student-athletes Carlos Pepin, David Duda Jr., Marc Rodriguez and Zach Sabol have earned NABC Honors Court status for their strong performance in the classroom.

To earn NABC Honors Court status, a men's basketball student-athlete must academically be a junior, senior or graduate student that has posted a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.

Pepin,the 2021-22 PSAC East Athlete of the Year, holds a 3.44 GPA as a criminal justice major. On the court, he also was named to the All-PSAC East First Team, and the D2CCA All-Atlantic Region Second Team. The Lodi, N.J. native did it all for the Warriors, leading ESU in scoring (14.9 ppg), field goal percentage (56.3%), rebounding (7.9%) and steals (1.9 steals per game). A consistent scorer, Pepin reached double figures in scoring in 22 of 27 games on the season and posted seven double-double performances. His seven double-doubles are tied with Steve Harris for the sixth most in a single season.

Duda Jr. holds a team-high 3.53 grade-point average as a sport management major. On the court, the Collegeville, Pa. product appeared in 22 contests for the Warriors. At Mansfield on January 5, Duda recorded a career-game of 19 points in 31 minutes, converting 4-of-9 attempts from beyond the arc and shot 7-of-12 overall from the floor.

Rodriguez, a graduate student majoring in exercise science, holds a 3.3 GPA. A starter in 25 of ESU's 27 contests, the Philadelphia native knocked down 38.1% (2nd on team) of his 3-point attempts and was one of five double-figure scorers on the roster with 11.4 points per game. He added 2.1 assists per game and averaged 27.3 minutes per game, which both rank third on the Warriors. He reached the 20-point plateau three different times and posted at least three triples in nine contests.

Sabol, a history major with a 3.43 GPA, made 11 starts in 23 total appearances. The Lehigh Valley product out of Emmaus averaged 3.2 points, 3.5 rebounds. He posted a season-best nine points against Lock Haven and grabbed nine rebounds in a home win against Gannon.

The Warriors posted a 19-8 record in 2021-22 and earned a share of the PSAC Eastern Division Regular Season Championship with a 17-5 conference record.
