🌱East Toledo Hotel For Sale + Wash. Schools 2-Hour Early Release

Good morning, neighbors! It's me again, Brad King, your host of the Toledo Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and very cold. High: 25 Low: 12.

Here are the top five tories today in Toledo:

  1. 27-year-old Devonte Pride failed to show up for his hearing in the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas for charges related to alleged theft of several dirt bikes. Pride is accused of meeting sellers through Facebook Marketplace then riding away on the merchandise. Toledo Police report that Pride was hospitalized last year for crashing an ATV after arranging to meet its owner. (13abc Action News)

  2. The Toledo Hemp Center is sponsoring a new clothing drive called "Sock it to the homeless problem" to support those in need of some warmth this chilly Toledo winter. The drive began January 19 and will run through February 2. It is a partnership with local organization "Backpacks For Humans 419." (toledo.com)

  3. A double birthday celebration at All Occasions Banquet Hall on Hill Avenue near Byrne Road was a frigid affair Saturday after the building's furnace failed. The hall instead provided warmth through a variety of space heaters, but the party's host, Tykeysha Harris, said guests were leaving faster than they were arriving. The manager has stated it will not provide a full refund. (13abc Action News)

  4. Washington Local Schools will begin releasing students 2 hours early on Fridays starting Feb. 4. The announcement was made by Superintendent Kadee Anstadt and the change is meant to alleviate the burden placed on educators who are covering for a number of COVID absences. (WTOL)

  5. The Days Inn on Miami Street in East Toledo will go up for auction in February after a troubled past. Frequent calls for drug overdoses, murders, and other crimes have caused neighbors to resent the site. (WTOL)
