East Windsor company to move to Windsor, expand operations

May 28—Specialty Printing will move from its headquarters from East Windsor to Windsor and expand operations, the company announced.

The company leased a 330,000-square-foot industrial building at 123 Day Hill Road in Windsor, according to a news release.

Specialty Printing prints labels for everything from prescription bottles to groceries and beer cans. It says its new location will be the largest label plant in the northeastern U.S.

The building has 267,480 square feet of manufacturing space and 62,520 square feet of office (flex) space, and has nine exterior and four internal docks, nine drive-in doors, and multiple overhead cranes and is owned by Industrial Realty Group.

The property was most recently occupied by Permasteelisa.

The lease was brokered by Frank Hird and Carol Karney of O,R&L Commercial LLC.

Specialty Printing, family owned and operated since 1978, describes itself as one of America's most diversified manufacturers of pressure sensitive labels and related products with its labels, packaging, tags, and electronic signs found in retail stores, grocery stores, medical facilities, restaurants, distribution centers, post offices, and warehouses nationally.

The company plans to move its manufacturing, distribution, and headquarters from three buildings totaling 150,000 square feet in East Windsor by the end of the year. It will immediately occupy 220,000 square feet at 123 Day Hill, with room for expansion and anticipated growth, Joseph O'Brien, Specialty's vice president of finance, said in a news release.

"We continue to add capacity," O'Brien said. "We continue to grow the business. This is a big step forward for us."

In addition to its East Windsor operations, the company runs a tech office in Tampa, Florida, and a support office in Troy, Ohio. The out-of-state offices will not be impacted by the move, O'Brien said.

The move will lead to the elimination of some redundant positions, but Specialty is hoping to use displaced staff to fill some open positions, O'Brien said. The 300-employee company is consistently looking for staff and has about 20 open positions, he said.
