EastEnders has aired a shocking twist involving Mick Carter.

As viewers will no doubt remember, Mick was presumed dead last Christmas when he raced into the sea to save his wife Linda during their attempt to catch Janine Butcher.

Linda has struggled to get her life back on track in the past year, having most recently relapsed in her alcoholism after being taunted by Mick's brother (and Linda's rapist) Dean Wicks.

Thursday's (December 21) episode largely revolved around Linda supporting her best mate Sharon as she prepared for her wedding to Keanu Taylor over Christmas.

Sharon initially considered calling off the wedding when her dress was run over by Harvey Monroe's taxi. However, after some supportive advice from Linda to use Kathy's wedding dress instead, Sharon agreed to push forward.

Back home at the Vic, Linda tried to put on a brave face as her mum Elaine had a drink in front of her. Seconds after Linda assured her mum she was okay, she received a jaw-dropping text.

The message was supposedly from her missing husband Mick and read: "L, I can't talk but I need to see you. I'm sorry I couldn't do this til now. I'll explain everything. Mick x"

Linda was left gobsmacked by the thought of her true love still being alive — but EastEnders star Kellie Bright has already revealed the message isn't genuine.

"When Linda arrives to meet Mick, it's not him, is it? It's Dean," she told Digital Spy.

"There is a moment between the two of them and actually what Linda thinks is going to be the outcome of that conversation, is not what the outcome of that conversation is. Let's just say it leaves her not in the place where she wants to be."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
