Janine Butcher has made a shock U-turn as Linda Carter woke up in EastEnders.

The schemer had been planning to flee Walford with daughter Scarlett after hearing that Linda's doctors were planning to wake her from her coma.

Janine has been panicked over whether she will be caught out for framing Linda for drink driving, since she was actually the one behind the wheel.

In Wednesday's (June 15) episode, Janine was ready to flee at the train station as she realised there had been a catastrophic mistake — she'd accidentally grabbed Linda's bag at the Vic rather than her own.

Janine raced to the hospital to try switching the bags as the Carters rallied around Linda. When Linda woke up, her family were thrilled to see she had no lasting brain damage.

As Janine entered the room to swap the bags, she assumed she was about to be called out by Linda. However, Linda inadvertently let on that she had no actual memory of the crash.

With Janine now assuming she's off the hook, she announced to Scarlett they'd be staying in Walford and then went off to the Vic for her shift.

Meanwhile, the Carters turned against Linda when she admitted she couldn't remember if she'd had a drink before driving with Annie. Even though Nancy suggested Linda might be innocent, Linda's estranged husband Mick told Janine he'd made his mind up.

"You know, there was one tiny iota where Nancy said she didn't do it. That she was my L. But she's not my L anymore, is she?" Mick told her.

"You know what, I'm relieved."

Mick then set down the drink Janine brought him, telling her: "I don't want [a drink]. I want you."

The two came together for a passionate kiss, but how long can Janine keep up her ruse now that Linda is awake?
