EastEnders star Kara Tointon has teased her new four-part series Too Good to be True ahead of its premiere next week.

Sitting beside Pirates of the Caribbean's Jack Davenport on yesterday's (February 8) episode of The One Show, Tointon told hosts Alex Jones and Lauren Laverne: "This is a Valentine's Day psychological thriller and I play Rachel. She is a single mum, up against it, struggling financially and in every sense.

"She is working for a cleaning agency taking on every shift she can to support her and her son, who is this incredibly academically gifted, emotionally intelligent 11-year-old, and life is tough."

The actress, who played Dawn Swann in the East End soap between 2005 and 2009, went on to further reveal about her latest character: "She gets the opportunity to exclusively work as housekeeper in this mansion manor house in the middle of nowhere.

"It's all very mysterious, for a successful businessman (Downton Abbey's Allen Leech), and yeah, it all kicks off from there.

"It's very strange. She wonders why he's chosen her, but it turns out he's been staying at the hotel she's been working at and he's sort of taken a liking for some reason to this mother-son duo."

Tointon will star in the series alongside Downton Abbey's Allen Leech. Meanwhile, Tointon also suggested to Jones and Laverne that she could relate to Rachel's choice of career.

"I find cleaning, when you become a mother, is the one time you sort of have a little Zen moment by yourself," she admitted. "So I've become really good at it since I've had [her sons]."

Too Good to be True begins Wednesday, February 14 at 9pm on Channel 5. EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
