EastEnders star Kellie Bright has provided fans with a positive update, after sharing an emotional message online regarding her son, who has Special Educational Needs (SEN).

The actress, who plays Linda Carter in the BBC soap, shared back in November that she was struggling to get an Educational Health Care (EHC) assessment for her son, and opened up about the long and difficult process.

She was initially turned down and was involved in an appeal process before an assessment was finally agreed.

However Bright has now posted another video on Instagram, giving fans and fellow parents a much more positive update.

"I have been meaning to post a little update about our SEN/ECHP journey on here for a while," she began. "And I am delighted to share with you – delighted is such a rubbish word for actually how amazing it is – as of February 6, 2024, my son has officially got his Educational Health Care plan.

"The process once the assessment actually started happening was fairly swift, as suddenly I felt like people were on our side and I wasn't having to fight as much as I had. [During a meeting], we were in a room together and I suddenly realised that everyone in there was on the side of my son, and that was huge.

"Posting this is weird because I know so many families out there are still trying to get theirs, are having the fight of their lives. I feel incredibly lucky that we have it, which isn't right. I shouldn't feel like I'm lucky, but I do. I know it isn't a golden ticket, but it helps, it really helps."

Bright also took time in her message to make a promise to those who are going through something similar with their own children.

She said: "The response to my last video was so overwhelming and extraordinary, and took me by surprise a bit, to be honest. But I promise I am going to keep talking about this and I am going to talk much, much louder – like really bloody loud.

"I promise I'm going to keep this conversation going and I'm going to use my voice to make us all heard. And I really do admire those parents out there that are fighting the fight and raising awareness and refusing to be silent. So I'm there, I'm listening, I hear you, I see you, I'm one of you, and I am with you."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
