EastEnders' Sam Mitchell will make a major discovery in the New Year.

Last month, Sharon Watts was given the startling news that her son Albie has a rare genetic disease called Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD), for which both parents must be a carrier.

After learning that she's an AATD carrier and Albie's presumed father, Keanu Taylor, isn't, Sharon realised that her ex-husband Phil Mitchell must be the child's biological father.

Sharon finally revealed to Phil that he's the father during Christmas Day's explosive episode, setting the stage for upcoming scenes where Sam decides to play hard ball over Albie’s paternity.

Sam tells Zack that Phil will drag Sharon through the courts if she doesn't give him access to Albie. Zack realises that Sam is trying to win respect from Phil and warns her off.

Later, Phil learns that Sam has been meddling and humiliates her by telling her to back off.

Sam is shocked to learn that Kat found out the truth about Albie's paternity weeks ago and kept it quiet from everyone.

Despite the truth now being out in the open, Sam is still suspicious about what leverage Sharon has over Phil and decides to play detective. What will she discover?

Elsewhere, the soap's Christmas Day episode revealed that Linda Carter killed Keanu as he tried to strangle Sharon.

The Six – Linda, Sharon, Denise Fox, Stacey Slater, Kathy Cotton and Suki Kaur Panesar – subsequently agreed to cover up Keanu's death and moved his body under the floorboards of Kathy's Café.

However, a drunken Rocky Cotton spotted Sharon outside the café shortly after Keanu's body was moved, and now he's promising to find out what she's hiding. Will he expose The Six's deadly secret?

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
