NEW MEXICO – The Easter weekend will be slightly warmer than normal this year for southern New Mexicans.

Spring is a notoriously blustery season and Easter weekend is particularly windy depending on when it falls on the calendar. Easter 2023 is forecasted to be warm and calm, according to National Weather Service predictions.

Temperature highs and lows

Temperatures will warm after Friday into the weekend with highs in the mid-70s Saturday, April 8. Higher elevated regions such as near the Sacramento Mountains are expected to experience temperatures in the high 60s.

Southern New Mexico will continue to warm into the low 80s Easter Sunday, April 9. NWS Forecaster Kerwyn Texeira said Sunday temperatures are about five to six degrees higher than what is normal for this time of year.

“You have to remember that sometimes Easter falls in March, not in April,” he said, acknowledging that weather is continuing to warm.

Texeira said a weather system will move into the area next week bringing slightly higher wind speeds by around Tuesday. Above-normal temperatures will continue.

“We’re going to be warm, but keep cool,” he said.

Slight rains are possible near the Sacramento Mountains next week, but Texeira said it is not expected to be impactful.
