Eastern CT towns honor Memorial Day with parades and ceremonies. What's happening when?

While the start of summer is drawing near, many people like to think about summertime activities. It could be going swimming, camping, or just eating ice cream. However, Memorial Day, May 29 this year, comes before that. While some use the bank holiday as a grilling day, others take the time to remember those who died in service to our country. There are multiple towns in eastern Connecticut that will have ceremonies and parades to recognize those who gave their all. Here are just some of the places holding ceremonies and parades.

Norwich

The Norwich Area Veterans Council, the City of Norwich, and the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce are hosting a Memorial Day parade and program. The parade will start at noon Monday, beginning at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, to Broadway, and over to Chelsea Parade.

John Waggoner of the Norwich Area Veteran’s Council will go through all the overseas cemeteries with the numbers of those killed or missing in action in WWI and WWII. Music will include Paul Salisbury singing the Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America, with Taps played by two Norwich Free Academy Trumpeters.
