Eastern New Mexico University alumni, students and employees have designed and named two alcoholic drinks, which pay homage to Clovis and university landmarks, ENMU recently announced. The partnership will also help fund scholarships.

ENMU partnered with New Mexico-based Red Door Brewing Company to create Blackwater Draw Lager, and partnered with Mother Trail Beverage Company to create The Greyhound, a canned cocktail. The drinks, which will be available at Red Door Brewing locations in Clovis and Albuquerque this summer, were named and designed by students. The drinks will also be available in select stores.

“ENMU appreciates our New Mexico-owned businesses partnering with us to raise scholarship funds,” said James Johnston, ENMU Chancellor. “Partnerships like this support New Mexico businesses and our students as we, in turn, educate a workforce that contributes to the state’s economic engine.”

Blackwater Draw Lager is described as a Bohemian-style Pilsner Lager that is "light and refreshing with a pleasant herbal hop bite to finish," with Pilsner malts and European Saaz hops. The can's design, made by ENMU graphic artist and alum Sara Wright, features the historic Clovis Point at the Blackwater Draw National Historic Landmark on the ENMU campus. The name, given by ENMU student Leander Murphy, was selected out of more than 80 suggestions.

The Greyhound cocktail uses grapefruit juice and premium gin, and is described as "fresh, bright, and tart." The can's design, also done by Wright, features ENMU's iconic administration building. The name, suggested by ENMU employee Vickie Brisco, was selected out of more than 80 suggestions in a contest in the spring of 2022.

“Red Door is excited to partner with ENMU and Mother Trail Beverage Company to market both products," said Matt Biggs, co-owner of Red Door. "We have been working in various communities throughout Eastern New Mexico for the last several years and are proud to be able to continue to support the area. It is an honor ENMU chose our brewery to collaborate with; we look forward to getting these drinks into as many hands as possible and raising money for scholarships at ENMU.”

The university will host an unveiling party at Red Door Brewing on Main in Clovis from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 19. Alumni and friends will be invited to try the newest ENMU branded products, according to a news release.
