Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System Celebrates Diversity Day, 2023

Oct. 4—Employees from the Eastern Oklahoma VA enjoyed food, fun, and camaraderie as they celebrated Diversity Day on Sept. 14, at the Tulsa and Muskogee sites. The event featured a World Café, an activity designed to celebrate diverse cultures and show that we are all connected to one another.

All the exhibits offered something to stimulate minds, as well as appetites. Speakers, PowerPoint presentations, and other educational displays provided interesting facts about the cultures represented.

The message of peace and unity resonated with the guests. There were respectful, engaging conversations about Judaism, Christianity, and world history.

"Diversity Day was a fantastic experience," said Aiden C. Steiner-Ives. "I had several enriching and valuable conversations with several individuals from varied and rich cultural backgrounds."

Family histories and recipes were exchanged over mouth-watering dishes from places such as Montana, Guatemala, West Africa, Denmark, and India. As attendees experienced different perspectives and cuisine, they left with deeper insight and appreciation for other cultures.

We look forward to having more Diversity Days. Events like this help us get to know each other more and fosters an environment of respect, freedom, and kindness. I'm very excited about upcoming events.
