Eastern Oregon University hosting third colloquium of the academic year

Jan. 9—LA GRANDE — Eastern Oregon University is hosting its third colloquium of the academic year on Thursday, Jan. 12, at 4 p.m. in room 210 of Ackerman Hall.

The seminar will feature the work of associate professor EK Esawi. He will discuss the role of data analytics in the thermal modeling of the Yellowstone National Park geyser system.

"For this research, it's the result of an earlier research project about modeling heat flow for the Yellowstone National park geyser system," he said. "While I was working on the project with my advisor, I collected a large amount of data from the park's website and I am currently processing the data and plan to do statistical analysis and publish the results."

Esawi is a data scientist by training and holds dual graduate degrees in applied mathematics and geoinformatics. He is also the coordinator for Eastern's data analytics program.
