Eastern Sioux Falls will have a new liquor store by the end of September
A new liquor store is coming to the east side of Sioux Falls.
Hangover Liquor and Smoke Mart, owned by Kalyan Dahal, will open Sept. 28, an opening that was initially delayed following supply chain issues.
Challenges in opening
That delay was paired with a waiting list for a liquor license, which he initially applied for back in 2017, Dahal said. That was approved last September. Another aspect of the delay was the remodel, which used to be home to an auto store. The store, at 4703 E. Arrowhead Parkway, has been under construction since March.
"Not only those things, but everything, and the price hike. Whatever my expectation was last year and 2017, what I projected on my investing in this business has doubled compared to today," Dahal said.

Familiar face in Sioux Falls business scene
Dahal is no stranger to the Sioux Falls business community. He used to own and operate the Aashna Asian Mart and the Xtra Time Sports Bar, which he has since sold. But now, he's focused on his new venture.
"This is kind of a universal business, not based on one group of people and it can attract like every kind of people. And this business can be run in inflation ... ," Dahal said. "... This will be easier, I'm like moving to the easier things. I'm not looking at the money ... Survival is the main thing."
"I thought this will be a little easier than running a bar or grocery (store)," Dahal added.
In his other jobs, Dahal was putting in 16-hour days he said, and was away from his family too much. He's been a businessman dating back to 2014 and enjoys working for himself. Before starting his business ventures, Dahal was a social worker at Lutheran Social Services.
Dahal, along with his wife, will operate the store. And he doesn't plan to hire until five or six months into the business, he said.
"I'll look at (hiring) in the future," Dahal said.
Along with liquor, the store will sell tobacco products including disposable vapes, cigarettes and hookah. There will also be beer and snacks available.
The store will operate from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
