Eastham urges the public to participate in Village Center Master Plan project

EASTHAM – The first in a series of three public meetings regarding the North Eastham Village Center Master Plan is scheduled for Wednesday night . The event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Eastham Public Library.

The plan is the latest step in a multi-phase, community-informed effort that focuses on a key goal in the town of Eastham’s five-year strategic plan: creating a vibrant and walkable village center in North Eastham, town officials said.

The public will have a chance to learn about the project, and provide input to help guide preliminary design options expected to be presented at a second meeting in June.

Plans for three town-owned properties

Final concept plans would then be shared during a third meeting in October. For more information on the meetings and the Master Plan project, visit www.northeasthammasterplan.com.

The objective of the Master Plan project is to create a roadmap for future use of three town-owned properties in North Eastham: T-Time property at 4790 Route 6, the Town Center Plaza at 4550 Route 6, and the Council on Aging at 1405 Nauset Road.

Town officials are considering how to identify ways to balance Eastham’s historic, small-town identity and environmental considerations with increased vibrancy and economic opportunity.

The town has hired Union Studio Architecture & Community Design of Providence, Rhode Island, to lead the master planning effort. The firm will be assisted by the Horsley Witten Group, Peregrine Group, and CapeBuilt.

Once complete, the master plan will provide conceptual designs for the use of each of the three town-owned properties, as well as a comprehensive plan showing how the sites tie into the larger community.

The final plan will include options for how built structures and natural spaces could be arranged on the sites, identify required infrastructure, and estimate costs for construction.

Funding for the project is being supplemented by a $75,000 economic development grant from the Massachusetts Rural and Small-Town Development Fund.

For those unable to attend the in-person public meeting, all meeting materials will be available for review and comment from May 12-27 on the project website at www.northeasthammasterplan.com.

A recording of the meeting will also be available through the project website and the Town of Eastham website at www.eastham-ma.gov.
