Eastside baseball's Mavis Graves drafted by Philadelphia Phillies in 2022 MLB Draft

Now Mavis Graves can add another title to his name.

After playing a major role for Eastside High's state championship run in baseball, the recently-graduated southpaw can claim that he is an MLB Draft selection.

Monday afternoon Graves, a 6-foot-6 left-handed pitcher and first baseman who was an all-state and All-Upstate First Team baseball player, was drafted in the sixth round of the 2022 MLB Draft.

Graves was previously a Clemson baseball commit, too, but announced on Twitter that he would be attending Spartanburg Methodist to play collegiately.

The lefty was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies with the No. 182 overall pick in the sixth round of the draft, becoming only the second high school player to be picked in this year's draft out of South Carolina. The first was Tucker Toman of Hammond School in Columbia, Toman was picked No. 77 overall by the Toronto Blue Jays.

The MLB.com Draft Tracker lists the No. 182 pick with an approximate value of $281,800.

His selection also came before highly touted pitching prospect Tristan Smith, who is signed to play for Clemson, heard his name called in this year's draft. Smith is listed, per MLB.com, as the No. 46 overall prospect in the 2022 MLB Draft.
