Eastwood girls wrestling team earns co-state title in Class 6A with Allen

The Eastwood girls wrestling team is Class 6A co-state champions. The Troopers tied with Allen High School with 67.5 points on Saturday at the Berry Center in Cypress, Texas to earn the crown.

The Troopers last won a state title in 2020 when they were in Class 5A.

Eastwood was led by Alexis Montes, who won the 120-pound title with a 5-2 decision against Alyssa Ruiz of Northwest Nelson. Paulina Butler finished second at 138 pounds and lost by fall to Anna Vogt of Conroe Woodlands College Park. Jadine Mata finished fifth at 165 pounds.

"It feels twice as nice," said Troopers coach Troy Douglas, who also coached the 2020 state title team. "This team fought hard all year. There are always new challenges in a season and our kids rose to the occasion. For Alexis to win a state title in her weight class and help us win one as a team is special. She's overcome a lot in her career and I'm proud of her."

Also in Class 6A girls, Franklin's Jubilee Rendon won the 100-pound title against Arianna Rodriguez of South Grand Prairie with a 3-0 decision. Erica Cobos of Americas won the 235-pound division with a 6-0 decision against Dayla Brown of South Grand Prairie. Isabella Martinez of Pebble Hills finished fourth at 126 pounds.

In Class 5A girls, Chapin's Keilani Guillermo won state at 132 pounds with a 6-0 decision win against Mackenzie Blue of Northwest, Hanks' Judith Sandoval won the state title at 100 pounds, defeating Zurri Zamora of Amarillo Tascosa, 12-5 and Andress 235-pounder Leilani Sanchez won the state title by fall over Dumas' Jolee Jones.

Burges' Joy Jackson finished sixth at 126 pounds, Hanks' Amalie Lucero finished sixth at 138 pounds, Chapin's Joy Ortiz was third at 145 pounds and Bel Air's Cydney Davis was third at 152 pounds.

In Class 6A boys, Eastwood's Trebor Moreno won the 132-pound weight class with a 9-3 decision against Klein's Timothy McGuire. Montwood's Gavin Ramos took top honors at 150 pounds with a 4-3 decision against Finn Shepard of Arlington Martin.

Eastwood's Noah Magana placed fourth at 106 pounds, Franklin's Braulio Estrada and Pebble Hills' Manuel Padilla placed fourth and sixth respectively at 113 pounds. Franklin's Ian Abadllah and Eastwood's Miguel Solis finished second and fourth, respectively, at 120 pounds. Eastwood's Ethan Franklin was fourth at 126 pounds, Eastwood's Andres Solis was fifth at 165 pounds and Montwood's Jose Angel Rosales placed sixth at 215 pounds.

The Eastwood boys team finished fifth with 79.5 points.
