Easy Does It partnering with Wyomissing church to expand recovery services

Feb. 2—Easy Does It Inc. and Atonement Lutheran Church are teaming up to expand local recovery support services.

The recovery support provider and Wyomissing church have signed an agreement that will see the two join forces to maintain Atonement's community center. That includes renovations that will add an office for Easy Does It in the basement of the building.

The community center is the former Wyomissing Borough Hall at the corner of Penn Avenue and Wyomissing Boulevard. For many years, Atonement has invited various community organizations to host meetings and support groups at the center.

Scott Althouse, executive director of Easy Does It, said this new partnership will allow the organization to open an office where certified specialists can meet individually with people seeking support on their recovery journey.

"We will provide that service to anyone who wants to take advantage of it, and we are going to do it for free," he said. "There are probably a lot of people who could benefit from the service we want to provide."

Althouse said partnering with Atonement made a lot of sense.

"The community center is a pillar of the Berks County recovery community," he said. "Hundreds of people use the community center weekly to build a foundation and sustain their recovery from substance use disorders."

Althouse said they hope to have the office up and running by July.

Deacon Tom Yenser said serving the local recovery community has long been a vital ministry of the church and it is looking forward to expanding the support it provides through this partnership with Easy Does It.

"Through this new partnership we can ensure the community center will be here for use by the recovery community for years to come," he said.
