Jul. 8—"You have to be able to take what comes and make something good happen with it," jazz clarinetist, bandleader, and educator Dr. Michael White tells students. White's seven-piece New Orleans jazz band will bring that spirit of improvisation to a performance presented by Santa Fe Music Collective, SITE Santa Fe, and Outpost Productions.

In its biography of White, Allmusic.com describes him as a "multifaceted, multi-talented New Orleans-based musician who hasn't gotten nearly enough exposure outside of his native Crescent City." White performs with the Original Liberty Jazz Band, which he founded in 1981, one of three bands he leads.

The performance is part of the 10-month New Mexico Jazz Festival. Tickets are $35, $30 for collective and SITE Santa Fe members; Holdmyticket.com/event/396228. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 8, SITE Santa Fe, 1606 Paseo de Peralta, 505-989-1199, sitesantafe.org; masks required
