While the dish was invented in Greece, local companies also played a part in popularizing the sandwich, which could explain why gyros are all over Chicago. Tribune critic Nick Kindelsperger has selected five standouts to help mark the day.

Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” premieres Friday with two episodes just in time for the long weekend.
