After receiving more than 40 offers, Eau Gallie's Robert Stafford announced Thursday he will stay in state to play college football, committing to the University of Miami.

Stafford, who plays wide receiver and defensive back, made his announcement live on the 247sports YouTube channel.

Stafford, a four-star prospect, said he felt the Hurricanes' system was the one that best fit his skillset.

"My playing style, everything I do, it just fits the Miami Hurricanes," Stafford said on the livestreamed announcement. "I just want to join it and I feel like coach (Mario) Cristobal, he is building something special over there."

It's been a good offseason for Miami. The Hurricanes recently received commitments from Nathaniel Joseph, an electric slot receiver/kick returner, who committed Tuesday, and two quarterbacks: rising prospect Emory Williams, who earlier in the month committed, and the No. 7 rated QB in the country, quarterback Jaden Rashada, who committed to Miami this past Sunday.

Georgia, Arkansas, Oregon and Kentucky were among Stafford's other top picks prior to his announcement.

Stafford started his football career as a wide receiver before making the switch to defense in high school. He was mostly being recruited to play defensive back.

After evading last minute tackle attempts from two Hawks, Eau Gallie's Robert Stafford (5) strolls into the endzone for the team's third touchdown of the night.

"So at first I started off at wide receiver because in little league I used to hate defense, so it was real funny. Then my uncle Tracy always told me, and then coach (Chris) Sands, they were like 'I'm telling you go to corner, you got the build, you got the athleticism, you got everything'," Stafford said. "So I think this year I just tried it and history."

Last season Stafford had five pass breakups, 19 tackles and an interception on the defensive end, while finishing with 42 catches for 605 receiving yards and five touchdowns on offense for the Commodores.

Stafford made sure to thank God, his family, coaches, teammates, and teachers on the livestream while mentioning how excited he is to play for the Hurricanes.

"I just want to go be a good teammate and then the only thing we got on our mind is winning that natty. So we are going to bring the U back, trust" he said.
