ECI girls basketball Weeks 1-3 recap: Wapahani, Blackford, Blue River start strong
MUNCIE, Ind. — Believe it or not, the first month of the IHSAA girls basketball season is almost complete.
East Central Indiana teams have been busy, of course, with some squads and players finding immediate success.
Here's a recap of the first three weeks of the season for area teams:

Latest LCGSA rankings: Several local teams have earned respect around the state. In Class 3A, Jay County (4-1) is No. 4. In 2A, Winchester (3-1) in No. 4 and Blackford (6-0) is No. 5. In 1A, Blue River (4-0) is No. 2.
Jay County's Renna Schwieterman commits to Div. I Purdue University Fort Wayne: The senior star on Tuesday signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career with the Mastodons. She's consistently been one of the area's top players for the last three seasons and could finish her high school career with close to 1,750 points and 600 rebounds.

Schwieterman named District 2 Week 3 IBCA/Franciscan Health Player of the Week: The Patriot guard averaged 23.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.7 steals to lead her team to three straight wins.

Notable individual performances
Kimber Abshear, Monroe Central: In her team's 32-23 win at Randolph Southern on Nov. 17, the sophomore led the way with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Reese Baker, Wapahani: The senior had 21 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for her first career double-double, as well as five steals, in her team's 50-33 win over Delta on Nov. 18.
Gabi Bilbrey, Jay County: The senior tallied her second career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in her team's 67-42 victory against Oak Hill on Nov. 15.
Josie Byrd, Cowan: The senior had 21 points to lead the Blackhawks to their first victory, 48-40 against Elwood on Nov. 21.
Maci Chamberlin, Blue River: The senior had 23 points, four assists and three steals while making 4-of-10 3-pointers in her team's 58-28 win over Centerville on Nov. 8.
Gabby Douglass, Muncie Central: The junior had a career-high 23 points, as well as three rebounds, three assists and two steals, in her team's season-opening 68-57 win over Delta on Nov. 3.
Machia Driskill, Blue River: In her team's 58-28 win over Centerville on Nov. 8, the junior had 11 points, eight rebounds, six steals and three blocks.
Charlee Gibson, Blue River: In her team's 45-13 victory against Hagerstown on Nov. 11, the sophomore had 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a career-high nine steals.
Addisyn Gothrup, Daleville: The freshman, in her varsity debut, had 23 points and three assists to help beat Muncie Burris 56-31 on Nov. 4.
Rylee Hallatt, Blue River: The senior dominated the glass with 19 rebounds in her team's 48-31 win over Shenandoah on Nov. 18.
Emma Hart, New Castle: Although her team lost 56-49 to Richmond, the junior tallied a career-high 28 points with six made triples to go along with nine rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Trishell Johnson, Daleville: The sophomore had a career-high 22 points, as well as 10 rebounds and six steals, in her team's 56-31 win against Muncie Burris on Nov. 4.
Olivia Leas, Blackford: The senior notched 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and six steals in her team's 61-37 win at Muncie Central on Nov. 19.
Rayven Luzzadder, Wes-Del: The senior had 11 points and 14 rebounds in her team's 55-15 loss to Madison-Grant on Nov. 8.
Sydnee Morris, Blackford: The junior notched her first career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in her team's 61-37 win at Muncie Central on Nov. 19.
Kayla Muterspaugh, Shenandoah: The senior made the difference in her team's 32-21 win over Knightstown on Nov. 5, notching 14 points, eight rebounds and a career-high five steals.
Renna Schwieterman, Jay County: In her team's 67-42 victory against Oak Hill on Nov. 15, the senior tallied 25 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and five steals with just one turnover while making 5-of-11 3-pointers.
Liv Waters, Blackford: In her team's season-opening 71-54 win over Kokomo on Nov. 2, the senior tallied her fourth career double-double with 16 points and a career-high 11 steals, as well as four rebounds and four assists.
Camryn Wise, Wapahani: In her team's 50-33 win over Delta on Nov. 18, the senior had 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and seven steals.
Amari Wright, Yorktown: Although her team lost 48-47 at Alexandria on Nov. 17, the senior had a career-high 20 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and seven steals.
