ECI volleyball Week 6 recap: Burris and Winchester win tournaments, milestones and results

MUNCIE, Ind. — Indiana high school volleyball is heating up.

Last week marked the start of county and conference tournament play, and Delaware County squads are eager to begin their county tournament on Thursday at Wapahani.

Here's a recap of the latest news, milestones, stats and scores from Week 6 of the East Central Indiana volleyball season:

  • Muncie Burris tops Frankton, upsets Park Tudor to win PAAC tournament: After sub-par start to the season for the Owls, they got back on track last week by sweeping the previously 20-2 Frankton Eagles and upsetting Class 2A No. 3 Park Tudor 2-1 in the Pioneer Academic Athletic Conference tournament championship. Both victories came on the road.

  • Winchester wins Randolph County tournament: With sweeps of Union and Randolph Southern, Winchester on Saturday easily won the 2022 Randolph County tournament. The Golden Falcons were led by seniors Caitlyn Campbell (30 kills) and Reagan Riggin (56 assists) in the two matches.

  • Delta sophomore Addie Phillippe notches 1,000th career assist: With 23 assists in her team's sweep of Muncie Central on Sept. 20, the Eagles sophomore surpassed 1,000 career assists.

  • Blackford sophomore Jaelyn Morris surpasses 500 career digs: With 35 digs in her team's 3-2 win over Jay County, the Bruins sophomore already surpassed 500 career digs.

  • New Castle's Kate Martin commits to Anderson University: The Trojans senior on Thursday announced her verbal commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Div. III Anderson University. The four-year varsity setter is approaching 1,000 assists and 300 digs for her career, according to MaxPreps.

Notable individual performances

  • Kynnadi Bell, Yorktown: In her team's 3-1 win over Cathedral on Sept. 22, the Tigers junior had a career-high 23 assists, as well as two aces and nine digs.

  • Alaina Bowman, New Castle: The Trojans junior notched a career-high 14 kills, as well as seven blocks and one dig, in her team's 3-1 win over Pendleton Heights on Sept. 20.

  • Caitlyn Campbell, Winchester: The senior notched a career-high 29 kills, in addition to four aces, five blocks, 10 digs, 28 receptions and two assists in her team's 3-1 victory against Union City on Sept. 22.

  • Abbie Fields, Jay County: The senior tallied a career-high 19 kills, as well as three blocks, four digs, two assists and one reception in her team's 3-2 loss to Blackford on Sept. 19.

  • Brenna Haines, Jay County: The junior notched a career-high 40 receptions and tied her season high with 31 digs in her team's 3-2 loss to Blackford on Sept. 19. She also added four assists, three aces and one kill.

  • Lilly Howell, Muncie Burris: The Owls sophomore rose to the occasion in her team's 2-1 PAAC tournament championship win over host Park Tudor, notching a career-high 10 aces, 14 kills and three digs.

  • Madi Howell, Cowan: The Blackhawks senior tallied a career-high 10 aces, as well as eight kills, in her team's sweep of Union on Sept. 21.

  • Camryn Isaacs, Yorktown: In her team's 3-1 win over Cathedral on Sept. 22, the Tigers senior tallied a career-high 13 kills and three receptions.

  • Gracie Lamotte, Blackford: The junior had a career-high 23 digs, as well as 30 assists, two blocks three aces and two kills in her team's 3-2 win against Jay County on Sept. 19.

  • Jaelyn Morris, Blackford: The sophomore tallied a career-high 38 receptions, 16 more than her previous best, as well as 35 digs, three aces and one kill in her team's 3-2 win over Jay County on Sept. 19.

  • Sydnee Morris, Blackford: The Bruins junior had a career-high 14 blocks, as well as seven kills, seven digs and two assists in her team's 3-2 win over Jay County on Sept. 19.

  • Reagan Riggin, Winchester: In her team's 3-1 victory against Union City on Sept. 22, the senior had a career-high 40 assists, as well as nine digs, two receptions, three blocks, two aces and two kills.

  • Charlotte Vinson, Yorktown: The Tigers sophomore notched a season-high 17 digs and 16 kills in her team's 3-1 win over Cathedral on Sept. 22.

  • Ella Young, New Castle: Although her team lost 3-1 to New Palestine on Sept. 22, the Trojans junior had a career-high 23 kills and season-high 16 digs, as well as 19 receptions and one ace.
