ECS hires new superintendent

Dec. 27—ELKHART — The Elkhart Community School Board has voted unanimously to hire Dr. Larry A. Huff as Elkhart Community Schools' new superintendent.

A former teacher and principal, Huff has a bachelor's degree from the University of Indianapolis, a master's degree from Marian University in Indianapolis and is a graduate of the Indiana Aspiring Superintendent Academy. He earned his doctoral degree from Oakland City University with a focus on school superintendency in December 2020.

He is also certified in crisis prevention intervention and a three-time recipient of the Pike's Superintendent Above and Beyond Award.

"Dr. Huff immediately stood out among the six candidates interviewed for the superintendent position at Elkhart Community Schools," said Dacey Davis, president of the Elkhart Community School Board in a news release.

"We are thrilled to welcome a highly competent administrator and academic leader to the district, who has shown exceptional performance within the Indiana Public Schools system.

"What sets him apart is his unwavering dedication to students and his focus on creating an environment that fosters their academic excellence as well as personal development. Elkhart Community Schools can look forward to an exciting future."

As chief academic officer, Huff has provided district-wide leadership for all aspects of teaching and learning for the Metropolitan School District of Pike Township near Indianapolis.

During his time as chief academic officer, Pike Township experienced increased student performance in IREAD-3 and ILEARN student achievement.

Additionally, Pike Township increased its graduation rate to 96.2% for the 2022-23 school year.

Huff will begin his duties as superintendent March 1, according to the ECS website.

ECS serves approximately 12,000 students through 13 elementary schools, three middle schools, and one high school.
