ECSO: Man charged with attempted murder for shooting man who challenged him to fight

Escambia County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a 37-year-old Pensacola man Wednesday for allegedly shooting a man in his front yard Nov. 1.

Justin Deon Bennet is charged with attempted second-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon for firing one shot at the victim while the victim "began making comments to 'Justin' about wanting to fight."

"(Witness) stated she was outside with (redacted) arguing like they normally do when a black male who she identified as Justin approached them and shot (victim) with a small handgun," Bennet's arrest report stated.

Witnesses told authorities that Bennet showed up to the residence after the victim allegedly stated he wanted to fight someone else in the home.

Once Bennet arrived, the victim allegedly wanted to fight Bennet, which witnesses say ended with the shooting.

On Nov. 2, authorities showed the victim a photo lineup that included Bennet, who positively identified Bennet as the shooter, according to the report.

Bennet is held in Escambia County Jail on $175,000 bond.
