Ecuador firefighter livens up lockdown with trumpet

One Ecuadorean firefighter is on a new type of mission.

He's not climibing his truck's ladder to put out flames, instead Luis Quimbita is reaching new heights with his trumpet to play songs for families cooped up inside and off the streets of the capital, Quito.

Luis joined the fire department six years ago and never imagined he'd be performing on top of a crane to bring some much-needed relief to the people of his city.

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) FIREMAN AND TRUMPET PLAYER, LUIS QUIMBITA, SAYING:

''We look for ways to reach people, make them feel that they are not alone, that they have firefighters who are their friends and that we can reach people through music.''

Luis says seeing the reaction from people in their homes watching on from windows or balconies is the biggest reward.
