Ecuador Runoff Presidential Vote Remains Likely, Poll Shows

(Bloomberg) -- A runoff presidential election between a socialist candidate backed by former President Rafael Correa and a former centrist vice president remains likely, according to a survey by pollster Numma sent by text message.

In the survey, 33.8% of people planning to vote supported former lawmaker Luisa Gonzalez, endorsed by the self-exiled Correa. That’s 0.2 percentage points less for Gonzalez from the previous survey a week before. Former Vice President Otto Sonnenholzner received 17.5% of support, edging up 0.1 percentage points.
In the poll, 31% said they wanted “Correismo” to return to power, down from 33% a week earlier, while 20.3% said they would vote null or void, up from 17.9%
Indigenous leader Yaku Perez ranked fourth in the poll with 15.1% support, up 0.2 percentage points
Investigative journalist Fernando Villavicencio, also a former lawmaker, dropped 2.2 percentage points to 10.2%
Numma surveyed 1,604 voters in 12 cities during July 6-9, with a margin of error of +/- 2.7%
NOTE: If none of the candidates in the Aug. 20 election obtains an absolute majority, or at least 40% of valid votes with a 10-percentage point lead over the runner-up, a runoff will take place Oct. 15
