Ed Sheeran has revealed that Sir Paul McCartney is an unlikely viewer of youth soap Hollyoaks.

The 'Joker and the Queen' singer told how he had met music veteran Macca for the first time at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert in 2012 where they were both playing, and he made the surprising connection with the Channel 4 soap.

According to The Mirror, Sheeran, 31, said of 80-year-old McCartney: "What’s mad is that Paul McCartney saw me on Hollyoaks.

“My generation watch it but the first time I met him he said, ‘Man, I saw you on Hollyoaks’. I was like, ‘When do you watch Hollyoaks’. But yes, he watches Hollyoaks.”

He is thought to have seen Sheeran in the 2011 Hollyoaks Music Show, where the soap would invite musicians to play on set.

It isn't the only time Sheeran has made a cameo on screen - his various roles include the 2016 film Bridget Jones' Baby and a scene in Game of Thrones in 2017.

Sheeran also spoke about being dropped as the singer of the theme tune for Bond film No Time To Die in favour of Billie Eilish.

He explained that he had already begun writing for the 2021 film scored by Hans Zimmer, which was Daniel Craig's last outing as 007, but that a last-minute director change from Danny Boyle to Cary Joji Fukunaga had also brought a change of theme tune artist.

Sheeran, who said he had "done all the meetings" admitted he wouldn't rule out working on Bond again.

He said: “I’m not going to pretend it didn’t hurt not doing it but, yeah, I would. I think as an English singer you’ve got to eventually do a Bond song.”

Sheeran is apparently facing another copyright trial in America over claims he took bits of 2014's Thinking Out Loud from a Marvin Gaye song.

The chart-topper's lawyers had tried to have claims that he copied from Gaye's Let's Get It On dismissed.

However, according to reports a judge in Manhattan denied the bid to dismiss the copyright infringement case, which was brought by Structured Asset Sales LLC.

In April, he won a copyright trial over his track 'Shape Of You'.
