Ed Sheeran is working with death metal band Cradle of Filth

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran is collaborating with Cradle of Filth on a new track.

Sheeran, 31, has previously said that he is a fan of the band and genre, being “really into death metal as a kid”.

In an interview with Knotfest, the band’s frontman Dani Filth revealed that the band is working with the Shape of You singer who has “done some” of the track already.

Filth, 49, explained that the song is still in the works.

He said: “We still have yet to finish our song with Ed Sheeran.

“He’s done some of it, but then he had a baby, and then he got obviously sidetracked with that and doing whatever Ed does, which is play massive shows around the globe.”

Filth added: “He’s not at our beck and call. But he is gonna finish it, he assures me. Actually, I spoke to him quite recently.”

The frontman also shared that there is no deadline or set date for the release of the new track yet, saying “It’ll be released when it’s finished”.

The idea for the collaboration came about last year when Sheeran mentioned hopes of one day writing a heavy metal album after growing up on music from Cradle of Filth and Slipknot.

The Bad Habits singer’s comment led to Filth replying on Instagram, “I’ll believe it when I see it”, leading to email communications between the pair after the exchange.

The upcoming track will not be Sheeran’s first attempt at a heavy metal collaboration, having worked with Bring Me The Horizon on a metalcore version of Bad Habits and joining them on the Reading Festival stage just last week to perform the reworked track.
