EDD backlog once again grows to more than 1 million claims

The number of claims still waiting for California's Employment Development Department to act is continuing to grow. The expanding claims come after more than a year of delays, verification problems and fraud found in a series of KCRA 3 investigations. Currently, the department is separating out the number of people waiting stuck in a backlog of more than 21 days, and those the department says are waiting for certification by those claiming unemployment. As of Monday, the number of backlogged claims sits at nearly 122,000 claims. But the number waiting to be certified is more than 910,000 -- bringing the total number of claims in limbo over the million mark again. See more above.
