Eddie Hall Tried to Test His Punching Strength and Broke the Machine

Eddie Hall has developed an incredibly powerful punch since retraining as a boxer. This isn't exactly surprising, given that just a few years ago he was named the World's Strongest Man, but there's more to punching than sheer strength: accuracy and speed also play a role, as Hall learned when he tested his punch on a PowerKube earlier this year.

While visiting the Arnold Sports Festival in the UK this month, the strongman-turned-boxer was given yet another opportunity to show off his punching power when he passed a booth with a strength-testing punchbag machine. Several attendees had already hit the machine with their best shot, with the strongest of them achieving a score of 998. Hall was challenged to beat that number.

"I shouldn't," he says at first, alluding to the fact that he is still technically in the recovery period following the recent fluke incident in a recent sparring session where he detached his bicep and had to have it surgically reattached. That was on his left arm, however, and it doesn't take much convincing for Hall to start showing the crowd what he can do with his right-handed swing.

Hall's first punch only hits 962, but each participant is given three attempts. His second reaches 980, and the third gets as high as 994... Which is good, but still not the best score of the day.

Hall believes he has "one more" in him, though, and unleashes all of his power in this final punch. The screen instantly goes black, and Hall speculates that a fuse has blown inside the machine. (A subtitle on the video states that it remained broken for the rest of the weekend.)

"What does that mean my score is, if I broke the machine?" He asks, adding: "Right. Well that's a good way to end my visit here."
