Eden Township man critically injured in Thursday house fire

An Eden Township man was critically injured in a house fire Thursday morning.

According to Newton Township Fire Department, crews were called to a house fire on Hunt Road around 9:50 a.m. Thursday. The agency said their crews arrived on scene to find heavy fire coming from the front of the home.

They said they attempted an attack on the fire inside the home, but were forced into defensive mode due to the volume of the fire.

Newton Township fire said one person was injured and taken by Utica EMS and medical helicopter to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he is in critical condition.

In addition to Newton Township, Utica, and Air Evac 107, the Licking County Sheriff's Office, Mary Ann Township, Bladensburg Fire District, West Licking Fire District, Granville Township, Newark fire, Hanover, Madison Township, Homer, Monroe Township, and the Licking County Fire Investigation team responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
