EDGE announced that Designer and Architectural Coordinator Karen Velasco-Carter recently created the architectural design for the renovation of a kitchen, wet bar and butler’s pantry within a custom estate home on Banyan Blvd. in Coquina Sands. EDGE was retained to provide custom cabinetry for the project, while construction was completed by Diamond Custom Homes.

The residence was originally built in the 1950s. The clients, who have lived in the home for several years, sought to update the spaces and create an open concept in the home. The project began in May 2021 and was completed in November 2021.

Prior to remodeling, the home had a traditional interior style with a closed-in kitchen and living room. Upon entering through the home’s front door, the kitchen was not visible and was separated from the living room by a wall. The existing wet bar and butler’s pantry was a very tight space.

“We redesigned the kitchen, wet bar and butler’s pantry to open up the kitchen area and create a more open concept,” said Velasco-Carter. “We also raised entry ways within the house to all be equal height with the ceiling.”

Velasco-Carter removed the wall to open the kitchen and living room space; completely. redesigned the kitchen layout, wet bar area butler’s pantry and closet; eliminated the angled walls and squared off pre-existing arches; created a new entry sequence in the home’s main entrance and opened entry ways within the home. The designer opened the entryway from the dining room to the kitchen and opened the entryway from the front door to the living room and kitchen area. The height of the entryway from the kitchen into the butler’s pantry and master suite was raised to match the other heights throughout the home.

The flooring was replaced and updated throughout the kitchen, living room, butler’s pantry, wet bar, and guest suite off the kitchen. Undercounter appliances and custom-stained, rift white oak cabinetry with glass fronted uppers were installed, creating additional countertop space and tall storage. The redesigned kitchen layout allows a more open and functional space. Opening the dining room into the kitchen provides more lighting and better utilization of the space.

The home’s interior style was transitioned from traditional to coastal, adding natural wood tones and materials, gold hardware, accent tile with light blue tones, and an overall color palette featuring soft, sand- and sea-inspired colors.
