Edgefield County school board announces new appointments

Apr. 4—The Edgefield County School District Board of Trustees approved several new administrative appointments for the 2022-23 school year during a special called meeting on March 29.

According to a news release from the school district, the Board of Trustees unanimously approved LaSonja Hagans as principal at Douglas Elementary School, Charidy Quattlebaum as principal at W.E. Parker Elementary School, Mary Bates as administrative assistant at Strom Thurmond High School, and Windie Burton as assistant principal of W.E. Parker Elementary School.

Hagans is currently the assistant principal at Atkinson Elementary School in Griffin, Georgia. She has a bachelor's degree in special education from Southern University and A&M and two master's degrees, one in curriculum and instruction from the University of New Orleans, and the other one in social work with a concentration in Hispanic communities from Our Lady of the Lake University. Hagans also completed a certificate program in diversity, equity, and inclusion workplace from the University of Southern Florida — Muma College of Business in Tampa.

Hagans will bring over 20 years of experience in education to Douglas Elementary School. During her time in education she has worked as an assistant principal, academic coach, general education teacher, and a special education teacher in Georgia and Louisiana. She has also taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

"I am honored and excited to serve the Edgefield community," Hagans said. "It is my goal to do whatever it takes to help Douglas Elementary students and staff succeed. I look forward to building long-lasting relationships with families, employees and the community."

Quattlebaum currently works as the assistant principal of Jefferson Elementary in Aiken County.

She has an associate's from Aiken Technical College, a bachelor's in early child education from USC Aiken, and two master's degrees, one from Columbia College in divergent learning and one from the University of South Carolina in education administration.

Quattlebaum has taught at the elementary and preschool levels. She has worked as an assistant principal, grade level chair and Millbrook Leadership team member. Quattlebaum has also completed the Aiken County Public School District Leadership Academy, and currently is in the district's Aspiring Principals Program.

"It is an honor to serve the Edgefield County community in this capacity and to collaborate with families, staff and partners," Quattlebaum said. "I look forward to growing together, celebrating academic achievements and forging positive relationships as we collectively empower all W.E. Parker Elementary School students to reach their full potential."

Other appointment approved by the Board of Trustees include Mary Bates as an administrative assistant at Strom Thurmond High School and Windie Burton as the assistant principal at W.E. Park Elementary School. Bates is currently the career academy implementation specialist at STHS, and Burton is currently the assistant principal at Douglas Elementary School.

Edgefield County School District is looking forward to Hagans and Quattlebaum, along with Bates and Burton, starting in their new roles in July.
