Edison back on track with rout over Vermilion

Oct. 15—MILAN — Vermilion opened the scoring Friday night at Edison with a 72-yard touchdown pass from MJ McCann to Tyler McCale.

But then it was all Chargers in their SBC Bay Division and regular season home finale. The hosts scored 55 unanswered on their Senior Night to improve to 6-3 (3-1 SBC Bay).

Six different players recorded rushing touchdowns for Edison: Luke Blatnik (4 yards), Cy Finnen (9 yards), Clint Finnen (4 yards), Kayden Bourget (25 yards), Wesley Kryger (18 yards) and Cade Clere (16 yards).

Bourget also reeled in a pair of touchdown receptions on Marcus Medina throws, going for 73 yards and 25 yards.

The Chargers will travel to Huron in Week 10 for a matchup of two teams that are 3-1 in league play. Edison will enter the game as the No. 11 seed in the Division V Region 18 computer ratings, while the rival Tigers (7-2) are No. 7 in the same region.

The Sailors (0-9, 0-4) host Willard next week.

Mapleton 53, Monroeville 29

ORANGE TWP. — The Eagles fell to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in the Firelands Conference with Friday's loss to the host Mounties (6-3, 3-2) at John E. Camp Stadium.

The Eagles trailed 22-6 after one quarter and 38-14 at halftime, but did score twice in the third quarter to trail 38-22 after three quarters. Mapleton then put the game away with a 15-7 scoring edge in the final quarter.

Monroeville hosts FC rival St. Paul next Friday in the regular season finale at Marsh Field.

McComb 55, Plymouth 7

PLYMOUTH — The Big Red suffered their fifth straight loss on Friday, as state power McComb (8-1) overwhelmed them at Alumni Field.

The Panthers are ranked No. 4 in the latest Division VII Associated Press state poll.

With the loss, Plymouth fell to 3-6 overall ahead of next week's FC finale against rival South Central (3-6, 1-4).

The Trojans are No. 14 in the Region 25 playoff ratings, while Plymouth is 23rd.
