From the editor: Introducing The Fayetteville Observer's 40 Under 40 Class of 2023
I have some great news to share with you today, readers. I am pleased to introduce you to The Fayetteville Observer’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2023.
The Fayetteville Observer has celebrated our area's best and brightest young professionals for 13 years now. The 40 Under 40 award aims to spotlight those who excel in their professional roles and how they serve their communities.
To be considered, nominees had to live or work in Bladen, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Moore, Robeson, Sampson or Scotland counties and be younger than 40 as of June 1, 2023.
This year’s nominees were considered by a panel of judges, including myself as the Observer news director, and Myron Pitts, Observer opinion editor. We also had two judges from our partners at Fayetteville State University: Wesley Fountain, vice chancellor for External and Military Affairs, and Jeffrey Womble, university ombudsmen.
We had quite a task as we reviewed nearly 300 impressive nominations for this year’s awards. I enjoy this part of my job — it’s always gratifying to see just how many talented, service-oriented people live and work in our community.
As always, our honorees come from a variety of professions, including education, law, health, real estate, the arts and the nonprofit sector. One thing they all have in common, however, is success in their fields and a passion and commitment to serving something beyond themselves.
