EDITORIAL: Cheers and Jeers

Mar. 14—Cheers to announcements by several local school districts that full-time in-school classes will be resuming in the coming weeks. There doubtless be challenges for students, teachers and administrators, but fully reopening schools is a major step toward a return to normal life.

Jeers to the decision by King's College and Wilkes University to abandon their joint Barnes & Nobel bookstore after 15 years. The schools must do what they think is in their own best interest, but the city is losing a downtown asset that will be missed by book browsers and coffee lovers alike.

Cheers to the return of daylight savings time and the promise of longer days and warmer temperatures. Yes, you'll lose an hour of sleep, but you'll gain an extra hour for fun in the sun after work and school. Did you remember to spring ahead?

Jeers to complaints about the $1.9 trillion stimulus plan "rammed through" the Senate using the reconciliation process to avoid a filibuster. The same critics had no problem with the $1.5 trillion tax cut passed under similar circumstances by a GOP majority four years ago.
