EDITORIAL: Digging deeper into Delphi deaths

Feb. 15—While Valentine's Day is a holiday where love is shared with those close to us, for two Delphi families, the day will never be the same.

It was Feb. 14, 2017, when the bodies of Carroll County teenagers Libby German and Abby Williams were found along the banks of Deer Creek near the Monon High Bridge area in Delphi after being dropped off the day before but not returning to their pick-up location.

Since that day seven years ago, it has been a roller coaster of emotions for law enforcement investigating the case, those who live in Delphi, families of the victims and even people all over the world who are following this case out of the small Hoosier town.

Since our story Oct. 28, 2022, stating an arrest had been made, we still are nowhere near closure in this case. It seems that almost immediately after Richard Allen, then 50, of Delphi was arrested after being named a suspect in the girls' deaths, there have been podcasts, documentaries, countless conspiracy theories, tips from the public, a litany of hearings and simply strange happenings in the case, which now has garnered global interest.

There have been evidence photo leaks made from someone who entered the the defense lawyers' offices. There have been claims the two teens were "ritualistically sacrificed" and killed by members of a pagan Norse religion and white nationalist-linked group referred to as "Odinists." There have been multiple requests for transfers for Allen.

And still, families are suffering without answers.

Today, Kokomo Tribune reporter Kim Dunlap begins a monthly series digging deeper into the Delphi murders and the circumstances surrounding the case.

Each month, she will present sources and interview experts in relation to the deaths. The Tribune will also provide all the info on the Delphi deaths, from back in 2017 until now, on our website on a page dedicated to the case.

This extra reporting will continue until the case is resolved.

Maybe then, peace can come to those who have been living this nightmare for seven years now.
