EDITORIAL: A heartfelt thank you

Sep. 17—The staff of The Duncan Banner celebrated a huge milestone on Sept. 10, 2022, as we celebrated the paper's 130th birthday.

One of the longest running business in Stephens County, The Duncan Banner first published on Sept. 9, 1892. Last Saturday, we celebrated this with The Banner's 130th Birthday Bash that look place between 10th and 7th Street on Main Street in Duncan in front of The Banner's office.

Main Street Duncan hosted Wine'n on the Chisholm Trail at 10th and Main and The Banner's birthday party filled everything else in the Main Street district to 7th and Main.

The birthday party included bouncy houses, a rock climbing wall, fire departments, face painting, door prizes, food trucks, goody bags, numerous booths and more.

We are proud of our history as one of Duncan's oldest businesses. The Banner's staff has built on the work of those before us by bringing Stephens County trusted, local news and advertising, produced by local people who live, work and play in the community to inform, educate and even entertain our citizens.

It's not often you get to celebrate 130 years. We were excited to put on a family friendly event with entertainment for kids while we show off our history and we were thrilled with the turnout from the community who came out to support us, our mission and have a blast together.

Our biggest thanks go out to everyone who helped. This includes Main Street Duncan Executive Director Billie Strutton, the Wine'n on the Chisholm Trail planning committee, all of our sponsors, donors, vendors and volunteers. What we did on Saturday, Sept. 10 wouldn't be possible without all of your support and we cannot thank you enough. This is something our staff will carry with us moving forward. We've always known how important a locally run newspaper is to a community. Seeing our community turn out for us fuels our fires and will keep us going so we can keep you in the know and informed.

The Banner's Birthday Bash sponsors included Artisan Fired, Dandy Dan's, Coaches Corner, Eric's Total Car Care, Davis Air Conditioning, McNair Investment Properties and the Duncan Tower, Big Belly Deli, Patty Wininger, Nick Bridges, Healing Waters Duncan, Lawrence Wheeler, Chicken Express, Hodges Photography, C5 Welding, Fencing & Construction, C&K Inflatables, DRH, Arvest, Billingsly Ford, Catalyst, McCoy's, Endurance Federal Credit Union, The Duncan Noon Lions Club, Dr. Brendhan Fritts, O.D.P.C., Rusty England and Michael Harris. Thank you everyone who sponsored, supported, came out, donated and showed us love so we could celebrate our history. The Banner staff is proud to be apart of DunCAN and Stephens County.
