Connor McDavid joins elite company after scoring 400th point

If you needed another reminder that Connor McDavid is a generational talent, well, here it is.

With his goal in the first period of the Edmonton Oilers’ clash with the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, McDavid became just the eighth player in NHL history to score 400 points before turning 23 years old, according to NHL Public Relations.

He joins an impressive list that includes Wayne Gretzky, Dale Hawerchuk, Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby, Bryan Trottier, Steve Yzerman and Pierre Turgeon. On this list, five have already been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame while Crosby will surely get the call the moment he retires.

In classic McDavid fashion, he hit the milestone in style.

He also became the 13th player to require 306 or fewer games to pick up the 400th regular-season point of their career, per NHL Public Relations.

The guy wasn’t done there, though.

With the Oilers up 4-2 in the third period, the first overall pick in the 2015 NHL draft picked up the puck with speed in the neutral zone. In hindsight, the Ducks should have just given up at that point.

McDavid, a two-time Art Ross Trophy winner, completed the fifth hat-trick of his career with a power-play marker to make it 6-2 later in the frame.

He now has 11 goals and 30 points in 19 games this season.

(Not to take anything away from McDavid’s achievement, but while doing some research for this article I stumbled upon the fact that Gretzky had 861 points before turning 23. That’s. Just. Loony.)
