SEU students win scholarship awards at educators' conference

Three Southeastern University students were recently chosen as Fanchon F. Funk Scholars by the Florida Association of Teacher Educators at the 2021 annual FATE conference in Tampa. Cassandra “Cassie” Cullen, John Pokhan and Daria Castor were three of the four recipients recognized as outstanding future educators. They will each receive a $500 scholarship award in addition to a one-year membership to FATE. The Fanchon Funk scholarship awards are named in tribute of Fanchon “Fancy” Funk, professor emerita at Florida State University. In addition to being honored at the conference, Castor presented a research poster titled “The Compelling Need for Trauma-Informed Training for Early Childhood Educators” under the advisement of assistant professor of education Lisa Ciganek, Eb.D.

University of Findlay

Ashley Moser of Lakeland recently performed with the University of Findlay's Choirs and the Findlay Civic Choir in "Holiday Concert." The students and community singers performed various holiday choral music. The concert was directed by SeaHwa Jung, DMA, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at the University of Findlay.

Western Governors University

Loretta McCracken of Lakeland received her master’s degree in nursing education from Western Governors University at the university’s commencement ceremony in Las Vegas.

Florida Southern College

Local students inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, in November at Florida Southern College included: Brooke Bower of Haines City, Madison Johnston of Lakeland, Kevin Medina of Davenport and Shaye Pustolka of Winter Haven.

Wilson College

Meghann Sullivan of Lakeland was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, in November at Wilson College.

Emory & Henry College

Jose Perez of Haines City and Ashley Retton of Bartow graduated with master's degrees in occupational therapy Dec. 11.
