Berg excels at BCC

NEW PHILADEPHIA − Rylee Berg of Ridgewood High Schools has been named one of two students of the month for September at the Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia. She's a senior in the construction technology program.

The daughter of Jason Berg is a Buckeye Ambassador and a member of SkillsUSA. Berg works at Chipotle and enjoys attending car shows on her days off. She is a former member of Ridgewood track, band and softball teams. She hopes to start an apprenticeship after graduation and eventually own her own company.

Instructor Terry Thompson nominated her for the honor and said, “Rylee is a student who is always on task and will do whatever is needed. She is very good at all things construction.”

COTC seeking award candidates

NEWARK − Central Ohio Technical College is accepting nominations through Oct. 27 for three alumni awards. The community college has branches in Newark, Pataskala, Mount Vernon and Coshocton.

The Outstanding Alumni Award recognizes COTC alumni whose personal and professional achievement brings honor and distinction to the college and whose individual attainment or contributions have improved the community.

The Transitions Alumni Award recognizes COTC alumni currently working at the college in either a faculty or staff capacity, whose work advances the college and makes a difference in the lives of current students.

John C. “Jay” Barker Community Service Alumni Award recognizes COTC alumni who have made a significant impact on their local community through their leadership, involvement and service.

Opportunity School gets state report card

COSHOCTON − The Coshocton Opportunity School recently received its state report card for 2022 to 2023 school year.

As a designated dropout prevention credit recovery program, the school is rated under the old system and not the new star system the other districts in Coshocton County are graded on.

The opportunity school was not rated on the achievement component and received a meeting standards rating for closing gaps in student performance. It received exceed standards ratings for progress, graduation rates and overall.

Schwartz presents at BWU

BEREA − Nicole Schwartz of Fresno was among more than 200 students whose outstanding academic work was showcased during the 2023 Baldwin Wallace University Ovation Day of Excellence. Schwartz presented "Sex-Dependent Caffeine Consumption and its Effects on Short-Term Recognition Memory" during the event.

Locals enroll at MC

MARIETTA − Marietta College has announced 341 new students enrolled in the college for the current fall semester. That include Kate Brady of Coshocton majoring in psychology and Jason VonFeldt of Warsaw majoring in strategic communication, focusing on advertising and public relations.
