Education notebook: ACU names new chief investment officer

Abilene Christian University announced in a recent news release that Joe Lee has been appointed as its chief investment officer and president of the Abilene Christian Investment Management Company, effective July 25.

Lee will succeed current CIO Jack Rich, who will be retiring at the end of the year, the release said. Rich has held the position since 2006, and has been at ACU since 1991.

Lee previously was managing director for the family office of Strait Lane Capital Partners in Dallas, and had earlier held investment positions at HBK Capital Management, JANA Partners and Fortress Investment Group.

He holds an undergraduate degree in economics from Harvard University.

Tarleton ups scholarships for transfer students

Tarleton State University recently announced that, starting this fall, it will be increasing the size of scholarships guaranteed to students who are transferring to the school from another college or university.

Students with a GPA of between 2.0 and 3.0 will receive annual scholarships of $500 to $1,000, and students with a GPA greater than 3.0 will receive $1,000 to $2,000. Students must have at least 30 credit hours to qualify.

Students transferring from one of Tarleton's nine Distinguished College Partners will receive an additional $500, with awards adjusted proportionally for students enrolling at least half time.

Cooperative Response Center awards scholarships to Abilene grads

Cooperative Response Center Inc., which is based in Austin, Minnesota, recently announced that it will award scholarships to two Abilene students.

Brooke Garduno and Brazos Lewis, both 2022 graduates of Abilene High School, will be receiving scholarships of $1,500.

The awards are part of the CRC's 2022 scholarship program, totaling $12,000 in scholarships to students in communities where CRC has offices, which includes Abilene.
