Education roundup: Applications being accepted for scholarship grants

The Stark County Retired Teachers' Association is offering five $3,000 scholarship grants to college students. Applicants must have graduated from a Stark County high school, be enrolled in an accredited college or university, be a junior or senior in the field of education and have a minimum of a 2.5 grade-point grade average. There are no age limitations.

Applications are available online at www.scrta.net. Completed applications should be sent to Rosalie Dolan, PO Box 935, Massillon, OH 44648 postmarked by May 18.

Stark State College seeks distinguished alumni nominees

JACKSON TWP. − The Stark State College Alumni Association is seeking nominations for its annual Alumni Hall of Fame honor.

The criteria for selection include demonstrated professional leadership, community contribution and civic involvement. Nominees must hold an associate degree from Stark State. A committee of Stark State alumni, faculty and staff will review all nominations and make the selection.

Hoover High School student to attend Washington Journalism and Media Conference

NORTH CANTON − Hoover High School student Ava Streb will be a National Youth Correspondent to the 2023 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, from July 16 to 21.

She was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in journalism and media studies. She will join other National Youth Correspondents students selected from all over the country for an intensive study of journalism and media.

North Canton kindergarten registration in progress

NORTH CANTON − Kindergarten enrollment for the 2023-24 school year in the North Canton City School District continues through Friday.

Children who will be 5 on or before Aug. 1 and live in the North Canton City School District are eligible for kindergarten registration. Registration may be completed online at www.northcantonschools.org. For more information, call the school district office at 330-497-5600.
