Edward Waters University continues to make history by adding women’s tennis program

For the first time in its 150-plus year history, Edward Waters University will field its first competitive women’s tennis program.

This will be the 17th varsity sport and ninth female varsity sport at Edward Waters. The program is also the 6th new sport added at EWU since 2020, joining women’s soccer, men’s and women’s indoor track & field, men’s volleyball and women’s golf.

The Lady Tigers tennis team will practice and play their home matches on campus at the new Edward Waters Tennis Complex, located behind the EWU Student Center.

The new tennis facility comprises four regulation-sized tennis courts, all painted in the familiar colors of the University, purple and orange.

In a statement made by Associate Vice President/Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Dr. Ivana Rich:

“We are excited to announce the addition of women’s tennis to our plethora of athletic offerings at Edward Waters University. Adding women’s tennis will increase opportunities for young women to continue their athletic careers while competing at the NCAA Division II level. The addition of this program will also strengthen our relationships in the community as we foster partnerships with local and national organizations to advance the game of tennis. The expansion of our offerings in athletics aligns with the vibrant new academic programs being offered at EWU.”

The EWU women’s tennis team will compete as members of the SIAC and will begin their inaugural season of in the spring of 2024.
