Edwards Place art fair, Hispanic heritage festivity and Oktoberfest on tap in Springfield

Meet an animated television character with your little one, attend an annual art fair, music festival, or celebrate Hispanic heritage at events happening this weekend in Springfield.

Here are six fun things to do:

Kevin Hart Trio live at Boone's

Listen to jazz from the Kevin Hart Trio at Boone's on Friday.

The show runs from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 301 W. Edwards St.

The band will play classic and contemporary jazz, instrumental pop tunes, and familiar television and movie themes. The event is hosted in collaboration with the Springfield Area Arts Council.

Meet Bluey!

Take your toddler skating and meet the television character Bluey on Saturday.

The fun starts at 10 a.m. and goes until 11:30 a.m. at Skateland South, 1500 Knights Recreation Dr.

A $15 admission is required and includes skate rental, photos, a dance party, and an arcade card with eight credits. Two free parent spectators will be allowed per paid ticket.  Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Edwards Place Fine Art Fair returns

The 35th Edwards Place Fine Art Fair features artwork in a variety of media from over 50 artists across the country on the grounds of the Edwards Place and the Springfield Art Association. The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

There's also a used book sale which benefits the Michael Victor II Art Library. The weekend includes live music, food vendors, and tours of the Edwards Place. 700 N. Fourth St. www.springfieldart.org. (217) 523-2631. Free.

While in the neighborhood, visit historic homes in the Enos Park neighborhood in various stages of renovation. Tours are from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Tickets available at the booth at the art fair. (217) 553-4629. $10.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Honor the rich history of the Hispanic community in Springfield at the third annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration on Saturday.

Bandy and other members of the Hispanic Women of Springfield hosted the event as part of Hispanic Heritage Month that included pan dulce, or sweet bread, hot chocolate and up displays of "altares de muertos," Day of the Dead altars that are traditional in Mexico for All Saints Day on Nov. 1 and All Souls Day Nov. 2. The movie, about a 12-year-old boy who accidentally crosses over to the land of the dead, sparked widespread interest in the traditional Mexican observance.

The event will be held from 3-6 p.m. at the Wild Rose Artisan Boutique, 115 N. Sixth St.

There will be an open mic session featuring music and poetry. Food and beverages will be available.

Beer, music highlight Buzz Bomb Oktoberfest

Enjoy live music and beer at Oktoberfest on Saturday.

The event will take place from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Buzz Bomb Brewing Company, 406 E. Adams St.

There will be a variety of local breweries, food, and children's activities. Performances by Left Lane Cruiser, SlaughterDog, Misery Garden, The Ex-Bombers, and other bands will also be featured.

Jaycees host celebrity bartending fundraiser

Join the Springfield Jaycees for a celebrity bartending event on Sunday.

The fun happens from 1-5 p.m. at Clique, 411 East Washington.

There is no cover charge but tips are encouraged and will fund local community projects organized by the Jaycees.  Food will be available for purchase.
